Important information for new coming International Students

If you come to Tübingen as an ERASMUS student, your first contact here is Mrs. Hahne of the Department of International Affairs; if you are a full-time student it's the Academic Advice Centre (ABZ).

Even before getting your student card, using your admission letter (Zulassungsbescheid) and your Matrikelnummer (which you receive at the moment of the enrolment), you can buy your Semester-ticket at Tübingen's main train station, or else in the tourist shop by the Neckarbrücke (with the Semester-ticket you can use public transportation in Tübingen and the surrounding area).

With your admission letter and the Matrikelnummer you can also get a library card at the university library (Wilhelmstrasse 32), and then use the internet for free in the library!

With just your admission letter you can buy a Mensakarte and eat in the dining-hall. Using your Mensakarte you can also do your laundry in the students residence.

What must I do for enrolment?

    1. Open a bank account and pay the appropriate enrolment fee
    2. Submit an application for a residence permit at Tübingen City Hall (Bürgeramt, Schmiedtorstrasse 4). Bring your passport, your enrolment confirmation letter and a biometric (!) photograph with you (*tell the photographer what you need it for).
    3. Proof of German medical insurance, or else of an exemption from the medical insurance requirement: If you have medical insurance from your home country which covers you in Germany, you are eligible for an exemption. Otherwise you should obtain student medical insurance.
    4. Enrolment in the Students' Office (Studentensekretariat, Wilhelmstrasse
    5. 11). You will need: a completed enrolment form (Immatrikulationsformular), a receipt for the enrolment fee, your enrolment confirmation letter, your passport with current residence permit, a confirmation of medical insurance, and one photograph.
